A 20-year-old man who allegedly stabbed the guard of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to death at the Eid ground has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command.
A police report stated that the young man attacked the officer while he was on duty, protecting the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the Eid prayers on Sunday.
The report also said the culprit attacked another security officer, who is injured and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Hospital in Kano city.
The police spokesperson in the state, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest and stated that a palace official, ‘Shamakin Kano’ Wada Isyaku, had also been invited for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The PPRO stated, “The police have commenced an investigation into the incident and have invited the Kano Emirate’s Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku for questioning.”
New Daily Prime reported that on Friday, the police announced a ban on the traditional Sallah procession in the state as Emir Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero continue to lay claim to the throne of Emir of Kano.
