Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged heads of government agencies and parastatals to renew their commitment to making the state not only Nigeria’s commercial hub but also a model of good governance and sustainable development for Africa.
Speaking through the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, at the closing ceremony of the maiden retreat for agency heads held at Jubilee Chalet, Epe, Sanwo-Olu emphasised the need for an unwavering focus on delivering exceptional results.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for your tireless dedication and service to the people of Lagos. This retreat is a crucial opportunity for us to pause, assess our progress, and re-evaluate our priorities to ensure we are effectively achieving meaningful outcomes for our community,” he said.
The governor reiterated that good governance is a continuous process, with the ultimate goal of transforming Lagos into a 21st-century economy that is inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable.

He stressed that decisions made today would have lasting consequences for the state’s future.
Highlighting the role of technology in governance, Sanwo-Olu noted that the Lagos Smart City initiative is actively being implemented.

He stated that the government is digitizing services, implementing e-governance solutions, and ensuring that all agencies adopt a modern, data-driven approach.
One such initiative, he said, is the LAG-ID Project, designed to create a unified identity system to facilitate seamless access to government services.
He urged agency heads to embrace similar forward-thinking approaches in their respective sectors.
“As heads of agencies, you are custodians of public trust. The decisions you take, the policies you implement, and the services you deliver directly impact the lives of Lagosians. We cannot afford to be complacent—we must challenge ourselves to think bigger, work smarter, and serve better,” he stated.
The governor commended the retreat’s organizers for fostering dialogue among agency leaders, noting that Lagos demands a proactive and agile governance approach.

The retreat was attended by all heads of Lagos State government agencies and parastatals.
