Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal has claimed that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, invested more effort in securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lawal made the assertion amid his ongoing disagreement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, maintaining that the ADC presidential primary election that produced Atiku as the party’s flagbearer was heavily manipulated.
According to Lawal, Amaechi demonstrated greater commitment during the build-up to the primary election by actively engaging party stakeholders and canvassing support across the country.
“Someone like Rotimi Amaechi was very confident that if we go to primaries, he would win. Everybody around him was extremely confident that Amaechi would win,” Lawal said.

He added, “Among the three candidates, Amaechi was the one moving around, working hard to see that he got the ticket.”
The former SGF reiterated his earlier allegation that the primary election was “massively rigged,” insisting that he possesses evidence to support his claims.
Lawal had previously exited the ADC following the primary, alleging irregularities in the process that led to Atiku’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.
Neither Atiku nor the ADC leadership has officially responded to Lawal’s latest remarks. However, the former Vice President’s camp has consistently denied allegations that the primary election was manipulated.
The development highlights the growing tensions within opposition political circles as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.
