The Akwa Ibom State Government has placed its health system on high alert following reports of a fresh COVID-19 outbreak in a neighbouring state.
The Commissioner for Health, Ekem Emmanuel, in a statement on Monday, said the move was approved by Governor Umo Eno to prevent the virus from spreading into the state.
According to him, surveillance has been strengthened across all entry points, health facilities, and communities. Disease surveillance officers and rapid response teams have also been activated to quickly detect and handle any suspected cases.

The development follows confirmation of a COVID-19 case in neighbouring Cross River State, where Health Commissioner Henry Ayuk reported an infection involving a foreign national.
