Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has named Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the preferred governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections.
Abiodun made the announcement on Monday during a party caucus meeting in Abeokuta, saying the decision followed extensive consultations among party leaders.
He noted that the endorsement was aimed at promoting unity within the APC and ensuring continuity in governance, describing Adeola as a candidate with the experience and political reach to lead the state.
“Nothing will give me more joy than to fulfil all the dreams of my predecessors,” Abiodun said.
“And ensure that one, the west, produces the governor. Two, I sit down the night before my departure from the office; I actually sit down at a send-off that will be attended by my successor, and I also sit down proudly with all my former governors at the swearing-in of a new governor of the APC.
“On that note, permit me to unveil the person we have all decided is truly deserving of being the next flagbearer of our dear state, Distinguished Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola.”
Yayi, who currently represents Ogun West in the Senate, chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations. He previously served as senator for Lagos West before relocating his political base to Ogun State.
Abiodun also called on party members to rally behind the lawmaker, stressing that internal cohesion would be critical for the APC’s success in the 2027 governorship election.
