The actress made the revelation while advising fellow actor Timini Egbuson on strategies for achieving success at the box office with his films.

Speaking during the conversation, Toyin cautioned the actor against publicly supporting political candidates, stressing that neutrality could help entertainers avoid backlash from audiences.
“The first advice I will give you in my entire life is don’t put your mouth in politics,” she said.
“Don’t tell them you’re supporting anybody. Don’t support anybody, just be on your own. Be neutral.”
However, when Timini reminded her that she had openly campaigned for Tinubu during the 2023 election period, the actress responded by acknowledging that her decision had affected her.
“That was then,” she replied.
While speaking further about the experience, Toyin admitted that the political stance had consequences for her work in the entertainment industry.
“Haaaaaaa, it affected me oooo,” she exclaimed.
Following the elections, the actress faced criticism online from some Nigerians who disagreed with her political position. The backlash reportedly extended to her film projects.
In early 2024, Toyin publicly complained that her movie Ijakumo: The Born-Again Stripper was being illegally circulated on WhatsApp.
The actress also lamented what she described as unfair treatment from critics and viewers who vowed to boycott her work because of her political support.
“You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours is not,” she said at the time.
The controversy sparked wider conversations about the role of celebrities in politics and whether public figures should openly declare their political affiliations.
Despite the criticism, Toyin Abraham has remained one of the prominent figures in Nollywood, known for her roles in several successful films and her contributions as a producer in the Nigerian film industry.
