The Oyo State Secretary of the Accord Party, Olayinka Dairo, has said the party remains united and is preparing to take control of the state government in the 2027 general elections.
Dairo made the statement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Tuesday, where he dismissed claims suggesting that the party was experiencing internal divisions.
According to him, the party’s national leadership, headed by the National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, and the National Secretary, Adebukola Ajaja, remains united and focused on preparing the party for the 2027 elections.
He explained that while internal disagreements may arise in any political organisation, the Accord Party manages such issues privately without allowing them to become public disputes.
Dairo added that the party’s constitution clearly states that any member who takes the party to court automatically forfeits their membership.
Addressing preparations for the electoral process, the state secretary noted that the ongoing electronic registration of party members is mandatory in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
“On e-registration, it is mandatory as per the Electoral Act. We have sensitised our members and we’re facilitating registration across the 33 local government areas, ensuring a smooth process before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Dairo expressed confidence that the Accord Party has the strength and structure required to compete effectively in Oyo State and potentially take over leadership in the state.
He explained that the party is actively engaging with other political groups while also expanding its membership base across the state.
The party secretary also commented on discussions surrounding zoning arrangements in the state, noting that although zoning is not formally recognised in the party’s constitution, the idea is open for consideration.
According to him, any political zone seeking to produce the next governor must mobilise support and work diligently, particularly given the political influence of Ibadan in the state’s electoral landscape.
Dairo further called on citizens to actively participate in the democratic process by registering as voters and collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He emphasised that voter participation remains essential in shaping the political future of both Oyo State and Nigeria.
