The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has endorsed the nomination of Peter Akpe as the new deputy governor of the state.
Akpe, an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), previously served as chief of staff to Governor Douye Diri before his appointment. His career spans both the civil service and partisan politics.
Before fully venturing into politics, Akpe worked in the civil services of Rivers and Bayelsa states.
He later represented his constituency in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly for two consecutive terms between 2011 and 2019, where he held the position of majority leader throughout his tenure.
He also served as commissioner from 2008 to 2011 during the administration of former governor Seriake Dickson.
With the Assembly’s approval, the path is now clear for Akpe to be sworn in as deputy governor.
His appointment comes in the wake of the death of former deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away in December last year.
