The All Progressives Congress has clinched victory in the Ungogo and Kano Municipal by-elections for the Kano State House of Assembly.
The polls, conducted on Saturday, were organised to fill two legislative vacancies created after the death of two lawmakers in December 2025.
The late legislators, who belonged to the New Nigeria Peoples Party, died just hours apart. Notably, the newly elected lawmakers are their sons.
In Ungogo constituency, Aminu Sa’ad of the APC secured 8,975 votes to emerge winner. Meanwhile, in Kano Municipal, APC candidate Aliyu Nabil Daneji polled 7,484 votes to claim the seat.
TheCable had previously reported that three prominent opposition parties did not feature on the ballot in the by-elections. The affected parties were the Peoples Democratic Party, the NNPP, and the African Democratic Congress.
Earlier this year, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, defected from the NNPP to the APC. Explaining his decision at the time, Yusuf said he switched camps to place Kano “in a position where it can fully participate in national development and secure a better future for its citizens”.
