President Donald Trump has issued what he described as a “last warning” to Hamas, urging the Palestinian militant group to accept a proposed deal for the release of hostages held in Gaza.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump said: “The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”
The remarks follow reports that Trump has presented a new ceasefire proposal to Hamas, which includes the release of all remaining 48 hostages on the first day of a truce. In exchange, thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails would be freed, and negotiations would begin to end the war during the ceasefire period.
Israeli broadcaster N12 News reported the details of the proposal on Saturday. An Israeli official confirmed that the government was “seriously considering” the plan, though declined to provide further information.
Hamas responded by stating it had received ideas from the US side via mediators and was in discussions to develop them. The group reiterated its willingness to negotiate the release of hostages, contingent upon a clear declaration of the end of hostilities and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Speaking to reporters while travelling from New York to Washington, Trump expressed optimism about the prospects of a deal. “I think we’re going to have a deal on Gaza very soon,” he said. “I think we’re going to get them all,” referring to the hostages, “dead or alive.”
The proposal comes amid ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire and bring an end to the conflict, which has seen heavy casualties and widespread destruction in Gaza.
