Russia launched one of its largest aerial assaults of the war overnight, striking an American electronics manufacturer in western Ukraine, officials in Kyiv have said.
The Ukrainian air force reported that 574 drones and 40 missiles were fired, largely targeting regions far from the eastern and southern front lines. The bombardment killed one person and injured 15.
Among the sites hit was a facility belonging to Flex Ltd, a Texas-based multinational firm, in the city of Mukachevo in Zakarpattia. Video footage showed a large fire engulfing the premises. Around 600 workers were inside at the time of the strike.
Flex produces a range of electronic goods, including laptops, game consoles and automotive components. Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, confirmed the attack, describing it as a strike on a “major American electronics manufacturer”.
The assault was Russia’s third-largest drone attack this year and its eighth-largest in terms of missiles launched, according to Ukrainian officials.
Poland scrambled aircraft to secure its airspace during strikes on nearby Lviv, less than 50 miles from the border. Warsaw said there was no breach of its territory.
The attack came only days after President Vladimir Putin travelled to Alaska to meet US President Donald Trump to outline his conditions for peace, including a demand that Ukraine withdraw from the entire Donetsk region.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, accusing Moscow of showing no genuine interest in negotiations. “Russia wasted several cruise missiles against an American business,” he said, noting the plant produced ordinary consumer goods such as coffee machines. “And that too became a target for Russia. Very telling.”
