‘Freed hostage Edan Alexander won’t travel to Qatar’

Freed U.S.-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander will not travel to Qatar to meet U.S. President Donald Trump, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said on Tuesday.

“The Alexander family confirms that as of now, Edan will not fly to Qatar,” the forum said in a statement. The family remains in regular contact with the Trump administration, according to the statement.

Several Israeli media outlets had reported before Alexander’s release on Monday that he might travel to Qatar to meet President Trump, who is currently on a multi-day visit to the Middle East—his first foreign trip since returning to office in January.

Local media also reported that Alexander’s family said the 21-year-old “needs peace and quiet” following his release, but confirmed that he was expected to speak with President Trump by phone on Tuesday and meet with him at a later date.

Alexander is said to be in good condition after being held hostage for more than 19 months by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, following the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.

He is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

His release is widely viewed as a diplomatic gesture aimed at the United States, with Hamas reportedly hoping it would encourage President Trump to pressure the Israeli government into agreeing to a deal that includes a permanent ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
