Police have arrested 86 people after a protest at HMP Wormwood Scrubs in West London in support of a Palestine Action activist on hunger strike.
The Metropolitan Police said the arrests were made on suspicion of aggravated trespass after protesters entered prison grounds on Saturday evening.
Officers said the group refused to leave when ordered, blocked prison staff from entering and leaving the site, and made threats towards police. Some demonstrators were also reported to have gained access to a staff entrance area inside a prison building.
All those detained were taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated trespass, the Met confirmed.
The Ministry of Justice described the incident as deeply concerning, stressing that while peaceful protest is allowed, trespassing and threats against staff and police were unacceptable.
A spokesperson said prison security was not compromised but warned that any actions putting staff at risk would have consequences.
The ministry added that prisoners are being monitored in line with established procedures, including regular medical checks, heart monitoring and blood tests. It said support is also offered to encourage prisoners to resume eating and drinking, and hospital treatment would be provided if required.
Videos shared on social media showed protesters chanting outside the prison, some holding placards.
In some footage, demonstrators appear to move towards a prison building, with one clip suggesting individuals briefly entered part of the premises.
The protest was held in support of Umer Khalid, 22, who is believed to be the last remaining participant in the Prisoners for Palestine hunger strike campaign.
