UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer has shown his support towards Donald Trump’s position towards Iran arguing that Iran’s leadership cannot be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons.
Starmer’s comments during a visit to China on Friday were carefully stated, with No 10 saying he would not speculate on any future US strikes.
He said during an interview with BBC in Shanghai: “The goal or the aim here is that Iran shouldn’t be able to develop nuclear weapons and that is hugely important and, of course, we need to deal with the fact they are repressing protesters, killing protesters”.
“It is grotesque what is happening so that is where our focus is and we are working with allies to that end,” he said.

Asked on the stance of the UK if there are more US strikes, he replied: “I am saying we support the goal and we are talking to allies about how we get to that goal.”
The United States has deployed a naval fleet to the Middle East amid ongoing concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme and the treatment of protesters.
President Donald Trump indicated that military action could follow if Iran does not engage in discussions regarding its nuclear activities.
The fleet, led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, Trump said the military force was “prepared to rapidly fulfil its missions with speed and violence if necessary”.
He wrote: “Hopefully Iran will quickly ‘Come to the Table’ and negotiate a fair and equitable deal – NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS – one that is good for all parties. Time is running out, it is truly of the essence!”
