A male teenager, 17, charged with inflicting bodily harm on his victim — a boy of the same age — has been detained at the Londonderry Magistrates’ court.
The court heard that the victim is in a critical condition in intensive care following an altercation on Butcher Street in the early hours of Sunday.
The court heard that CCTV footage revealed the defendant being pulled away from the scene before returning and striking another youth.
The suspect is also alleged to have assaulted another man and violated bail conditions relating to a separate case.

Defence counsel told the court that the accused had expressed concern about the condition of the injured youth, describing the incident as a confrontation between young men that escalated into a single punch causing serious head injuries.
Counsel said the defendant had made full admissions and maintained he did not intend to cause serious harm.
However, the judge held that the blow was delivered with considerable force and consequently denied the defendant bail.
