An Iranian national has been arrested together with a woman following an attempt to gain entrance into the UK’s home to the nuclear-armed submarines, the Faslane naval base.
According to reports by the Scotland Police, a 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were apprehended at the HM Naval Base Clyde.
The Royal Navy noted that the suspects “unsuccessfully attempted” to enter the base adding that: “as the matter is subject to an ongoing investigation, we will not comment further”
It is understood that the two individuals did not attempt to force entry into the base.
They reportedly requested access but were denied permission and were arrested shortly afterwards. Police Scotland said inquiries are ongoing.
The Faslane Naval Base, located on Gare Loch about 25 miles (40km) north-west of Glasgow, serves as the home of all the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarines.
This includes the UK’s four Vanguard-class submarine, which carry Trident nuclear missiles.

The arrests come amid heightened tensions following airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which reportedly resulted in the death of the country’s supreme leader on 28 February.
Iran has since launched retaliatory attacks on Israel and US-allied states in the Gulf region.
The UK Defence Secretary, John Healey, said the government is reviewing the country’s terror threat level, which currently remains at “substantial,” indicating that an attack is considered “likely.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the UK has increased security measures, stating that protections for British bases and personnel have been raised to their highest level.
