Nottingham Forest have named Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo.
The Australian manager has signed a contract running until June 2027, with all legal formalities now complete. He has already reported to Forest’s training ground to begin work.
Espírito Santo, who earned a contract extension earlier this summer after guiding Forest to Europa League qualification, admitted in August that his relationship with co-owner Evangelos Marinakis was “not the same” and “not so good as it was last season.”

His comments fuelled speculation over his future, which has now ended with his departure.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the appointment on X, noting that Postecoglou had been the “clear favourite” for the role since Sunday night, with negotiations swiftly settled in Marinakis’ favour.
Postecoglou brings a strong record of reviving struggling clubs. At Celtic, he was appointed in 2021 amid a crisis, with the club trailing Rangers and doubts over his lack of European experience.
He reshaped the squad with signings such as Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda, introduced a high-pressing style, and led Celtic to the Premiership and League Cup in his first season. He went on to complete a domestic treble in 2022–23, lifting five of six available trophies in two years.
He moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, taking on the challenge of replacing Harry Kane and ending years of defensive football.
His attacking approach reinvigorated players like Son Heung-min and opened doors for emerging talents. He won two Premier League Manager of the Month awards and, in 2025, delivered Spurs’ first major trophy since 2008 with the Europa League.

However, inconsistency saw his side slump to 17th with 22 league defeats—their worst-ever Premier League campaign—leading to his dismissal that June.
At Nottingham Forest, Postecoglou now faces the task of steadying a club determined to balance European ambitions with Premier League security.
