Polish tennis star Iga Świątek launched her US Open campaign in emphatic style, sweeping aside Emiliana Arango with a dominant straight-sets win, 6-1, 6-2.
The victory keeps alive her bid to achieve a remarkable milestone – becoming the first woman since Serena Williams in 2012 to claim both Wimbledon and the US Open in the same calendar year.
The match, staged at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium, highlighted Świątek’s trademark blend of power, precision and resilience.
Beyond securing her place in the next round, she also made history by surpassing Monica Seles’ long-standing record for the most consecutive opening-round wins in the Open Era – another testament to her unrelenting dominance.
