Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to join Leeds United on a free transfer, with the former Everton striker due to undergo a medical at the newly promoted Premier League club.
The 28-year-old left Goodison Park in June after nine years, describing his departure as an “incredibly difficult decision.” Signed from Sheffield United for £1.5m in 2016, he went on to score 71 goals in 273 appearances for the Toffees.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke is reshaping his attacking options ahead of the new season. Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha are currently the main strikers, while Patrick Bamford has been told he is not in the club’s plans. Mateo Joseph has been loaned to Mallorca, leaving room for reinforcements.
Lewin’s greatest season so far
Calvert-Lewin’s finest season came in 2020-21, when he netted 16 goals in 33 Premier League matches and earned a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad, helping the team reach the final. However, injuries and inconsistent form hampered his progress, and last season he started just over half of the 26 matches he featured in.
Once a regular for the national team, the forward has not added to his 11 England caps or four goals since 2021.
If the deal is finalised, Calvert-Lewin will aim to reignite his career at Elland Road and help Leeds establish themselves back in the Premier League.
