Reform UK has announced its intention to refuse visa issuance to people from countries that requests compensation from the UK for its involvement in the transatlantic slave trade.

The party’s home affairs spokesperson, Zia Yusuf, in his words described the demand for reparations as “insulting”
He noted that over the past two decades, 3.8m visas were issued to people across countries calling for reparations.
Speaking with the Telegraph, he said: “A growing number of countries are demanding reparations from Britain. These countries ignore the fact that Britain made huge sacrifices to be the first major power to outlaw slavery and enforce this prohibition.”
He added that the “bank is closed and the door is locked” for persons who wanted to “use history as a weapon to drain our treasury”.

“The United Kingdom is not an ATM for ethnic grievances of the past, and we will no longer tolerate being ridiculed on the world stage,” he continued. “While countries like Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana ramp up their demands for reparations, the Westminster establishment has rewarded them. Enough is enough.”
Reform UK has earlier promised to end international aid to countries calling for reparations.
Over a period of four centuries, seven European nations, including the UK, enslaved and transported more than 15 million Africans across the Atlantic. Historians note that much of the wealth generated from this forced labour helped fuel Western industrialisation.
Last month, the United Nations formally recognised the transatlantic slave trade as the “gravest crime against humanity” and urged reparations, describing them as “a concrete step towards remedying historical wrongs.”
