The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a full investigation into a political meeting allegedly linked to former governor Nasir El-Rufai, which reportedly descended into violence and sporadic gunfire.
Police described the incident as a breach of public peace, noting that the gathering, held under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition, took place without prior notification to security agencies.

DSP Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer, said preliminary findings suggested that “political gangsters and thugs” loyal to the former governor fired shots that disrupted public order.
He vowed that all those responsible would be brought to justice, stressing that “nobody is above the law.”
The ADC leadership has distanced itself from the event, denying any knowledge of the meeting and rejecting claims of El-Rufai’s involvement with the party.
In response, the police have warned hotels, event centres, and similar venues that they will be held accountable for hosting political gatherings without prior security clearance.
They also suspended all unauthorised political meetings across the state until organisers secure proper clearance.
Authorities said these measures were necessary to prevent miscreants from exploiting such gatherings to cause mayhem.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public peace and urged political organisers to comply with laid-down regulations.
The investigation continues, with police pledging to apply the full weight of the law to anyone found culpable.
