The Interim Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), has begun the process of returning governance to a democratically elected government, six months after a state of emergency was declared by President Bola Tinubu.
The transition process will commence with an inter-denominational thanksgiving service on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt.

According to a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Lucky Worika, the event is expected to be attended by a wide range of state and community leaders, including permanent secretaries, local government chairmen, security chiefs, and traditional rulers.
Earlier this week, on Friday, Ibas announced that his presidential mandate had been fulfilled as he received the report from the August 30 Local Government election.
He recounted that his administration, which began on March 18, was given the task of restoring peace and stability and safeguarding crucial economic assets in the state following a period of prolonged political turmoil.
“When Mr President entrusted me with this difficult assignment, I pledged to serve with courage and impartiality. Six months later, we have restored calm, stabilised the state, and ensured that Rivers remains a strong economic partner to the nation”, Ibas said.
He added that while some challenges persist, he is confident the core mandate has been achieved.

Ibas also used the opportunity to express his gratitude to all those who collaborated with his administration during what he described as a “trying but purposeful” period, including security agencies, civil servants, and the people of the state.
