Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has addressed comments attributed to his predecessor, Kayode Fayemi, asserting that the people of Ekiti are not ungrateful.
The statement, made during a public address in Ado-Ekiti on August 28, 2025, comes amid speculations of a rift between the two leaders, sparked by Fayemi’s alleged remarks suggesting that Ekiti residents failed to appreciate his administration’s contributions.

Oyebanji, speaking at a community engagement event, defended the character of Ekiti people, emphasising their resilience and appreciation for good governance.
“Ekiti people are not ingrates. They are discerning and value leaders who prioritise their welfare,” he declared.
The governor highlighted his administration’s achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including infrastructure upgrades, improved healthcare, and youth empowerment programs, which have resonated with the populace.
He urged unity, dismissing divisive narratives that undermine the state’s progress.
Fayemi, who served as governor from 2010 to 2014 and 2018 to 2022, reportedly made the comments during a private gathering, prompting public backlash.
Sources close to Fayemi clarified that his remarks were taken out of context, intended to reflect on political dynamics rather than insult the people.
However, Oyebanji’s response underscores his commitment to protecting Ekiti’s reputation while fostering harmony.
The governor’s remarks also spotlight his administration’s efforts to build on Fayemi’s legacy while addressing current challenges.
“We respect the past but focus on the future. Our people deserve continuity and progress,” Oyebanji said, citing projects like the ongoing Ado-Iyin road rehabilitation and rural electrification initiatives as evidence of his government’s dedication.
The public views this exchange as a delicate balancing act for Oyebanji, who seeks to maintain party unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) while asserting his leadership.
