Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has assigned portfolios to the 17 commissioners who were recently inaugurated.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a State Executive Council meeting in Makurdi.
Alia charged the new and retained commissioners to serve with integrity, dedication, and loyalty, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach to governance.

“This is a call to action,” he stated. “Your commitment to the people of Benue State must be unwavering as we work together to deliver impactful governance and development.”
Alumo Orpin was named Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, while Ugwu Odoh will head the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change.
Ortese Yanmar was moved from Health to Cooperative and Rural Development, and Frederick Ikyaan, formerly of Education, now leads the Ministry of Lands.
Michael Oglegba retains his position as Commissioner for Finance.
In other notable changes, Tiza Imojime was reassigned from the Ministry of Works to Youth, Sports, and Creativity.
The new appointments include Benjamin Ashaver for Agriculture and Food Security, Adamu Ijaguwa for Education and Knowledge Management, and Dennis Iyaighgba for Marine and Blue Economy.
Paul Ogwuche will now serve as the Commissioner for Health and Human Services.
The new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice is Ornguga Yangien.
Amidst the portfolio announcements, rumors began to circulate on social media claiming that Alia had appointed himself as the Commissioner for Works.
However, he refuted the allegations and described it as “baseless” and urged the public to ignore them.
He called on those who spread the falsehoods to delete their posts immediately.
Alia stressed the importance of accurate information in governance and urged the public to support the administration’s progress.

Alia echoed this sentiment, calling on the media and citizens to cooperate with the newly appointed commissioners to ensure the success of their assignments.
He emphasised that the administration’s collective success relies on the ability of all stakeholders to work together.
