The United Kingdom (UK) government has stopped American rapper Kanye West from entering the country ahead of his planned performance at the Wireless Festival in London.
Officials said his presence was not considered to be in the public interest, a key condition used by authorities to deny entry to foreign nationals.
According to Sky News, West had applied for permission to travel to the UK through an Electronic Travel Authorisation system earlier this week. Although the application was initially approved, government officials later stepped in and reversed the decision.

The move followed a growing criticism over the rapper’s past comments, including antisemitic statements and remarks seen as supporting extremist views. These controversies have previously led to restrictions on his social media accounts.
Under UK immigration rules, the Home Secretary has the power to block individuals whose presence is seen as harmful to public safety or national values. Such actions are often linked to concerns around extremism, security, or public order.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer had earlier described the decision to book West for the festival as “deeply concerning.” The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, also faced pressure from political figures and advocacy groups to prevent his entry.
Speaking on the issue, Health Secretary Wes Streeting said he was “appalled” that the rapper had been invited and added that organisers showed poor judgement.
The Wireless Festival, one of the UK’s major music events, is expected to go ahead without West as headliner.
