Jeffrey EpsteinBy Eniola Amadu
A legal representative for a number of survivors of Jeffrey Epstein has called for the renaming of streets in Northern Ireland named after Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Gloria Allred said this in a chat with BBC Radio Ulster’s Good Morning Ulster programme.
Amongst the roads is Prince Andrew Way in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. “Especially Prince Andrew Way, because we don’t like his way of doing things and the people he is associated with,” she said.
Allred commended the King’s decision to remove Andrew’s titles saying it is the “right action to take” and praised those who voiced out their concerns as regards Prince Andrew.
She said: “I am also very proud of anyone in Ireland and the UK who stood up and made known their voice and their feelings that there should not be honours for Prince Andrew,”
The Alliance Party has proposed a motion to the Mid and East Antrim Council to rename Prince Andrew Way in Carrickfergus.
Councillor Aaron Skinner said the “road needs to be renamed.”
“We should be respectful of victims in everything we do,” he said.
“We’ve had a lot of people contacting us asking for the street to be renamed.
“We think it’s important we keep our royal heritage and are proposing renaming it after Queen Elizabeth.”
Despite his denial of any wrongdoing, his relationship with the charged sex offender has brought challenges for the Royal Family.
According to Buckingham Palace, “a formal process” has been initiated by the King to remove Prince Andrew’s titles and he will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor from now on.
The legal representative, Gloria Allred said “let’s not honour anyone who is accused of a sex crime, even if he denies it”.
Andrew had earlier this month said he would give up all his royal titles, including the Duke of York and his title of Baron Killyleagh which was awarded to him by his mother – Elizabeth II, on his wedding day in 1986, Earl of Inverness.
Andrew will no longer be privileged to be called His Royal Highness.
The titles of the Order of the Garter and the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order will also be removed.
