A murder investigation has been launched following the death of 19-year-old Black teenager Rinneau Perrineau, who was stabbed in south-west London earlier this week.
Perrineau, affectionately known as Ren to his family and friends, was attacked at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Lavender Hill, Wandsworth, according to the Metropolitan Police. The teenager was found with serious stab wounds and was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he died from his injuries on Friday.
Police described the incident as “a shocking crime committed in broad daylight” and confirmed that one person has been arrested in connection with the case. Detectives have assured the public that the attack is believed to be an isolated incident, though they continue to appeal for witnesses.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this terrible time,” said Acting Borough Commander Amanda Mawhinney, who leads policing in the area. “A teenager’s life was taken, and his family and friends have suffered an irrevocable loss. Our officers are making every effort to bring those responsible to justice. Residents may notice a police presence around the scene of the crime, as patrols have been stepped up in the local area.”
The police have urged anyone who was in Beauchamp Road between 3:20 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on the day of the attack to contact them by calling 101.
Family in mourning for teenager
In a statement issued through the police, Perrineau’s family expressed deep grief over his loss.
“Ren was loved by many; he was always around his family. He will be dearly missed,” the statement read.
Friends and local residents have been leaving flowers, photos, and heartfelt notes at the scene of the attack. Many described him as “a kind-hearted and humble young man who was full of potential.”
The tragic death of Rinneau Perrineau adds to the growing number of knife-related killings across the United Kingdom, particularly among young people.
According to official figures, London has recorded more than 50 fatal stabbings so far in 2025, with Black teenagers disproportionately affected.
Community leaders have expressed anger and sadness, calling for immediate government intervention and greater investment in youth development, education, and mental health support.
“We cannot continue to lose our young people like this,” said community activist Marlon Grant. “Every death like Ren’s is a reminder that urgent action is needed to protect our communities.”
He added that more youth outreach programmes, mentorship initiatives, and stronger community policing are essential to stem the tide of knife crime that continues to devastate families across the capital.
The Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the investigation, and officers have reiterated their commitment to finding those responsible for Perrineau’s death.
Authorities have also encouraged witnesses or anyone with video footage of the incident to come forward, either directly to police or anonymously through Crimestoppers UK.
As London mourns another promising young life cut short, questions remain over how many more families must endure such heartbreak before meaningful action is taken to curb youth violence.
