Governor Dapo Abiodun has declared that Ogun State has witnessed significant economic and infrastructural growth under his administration, describing the state as a “near El Dorado” now comparable only to Lagos State.
The governor made the remarks on Friday night while speaking with journalists at the venue of the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention in Abuja.
Highlighting what he described as rapid economic transformation, Abiodun said Ogun has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in Nigeria, driven by strategic governance and investment-focused policies.

“My state is the fastest growing economy in this country. I’m the industrial capital of this country. My GDP has grown from four trillion to 17 trillion in just seven years,” he stated.
He added that his administration has prioritised bringing governance closer to the people, leading to improvements across multiple sectors. “My state has become a near El Dorado. And everybody can testify to that. Things have totally turned around in my state,” Abiodun said.

According to the governor, Ogun’s rising profile has elevated it to a unique position nationally, with comparisons now largely limited to Lagos State. “My state has achieved a level of prominence where we are only compared today with only one state, and that’s Lagos State,” he added.
On security, Abiodun acknowledged ongoing concerns but assured residents that law enforcement agencies are actively addressing the situation. “The process of identifying and arresting criminals is ongoing, and I’m sure the law enforcement agencies are on top of it,” he said.
He also hinted at broader political dynamics influencing developments across states, suggesting that some challenges may not be entirely disconnected from political activities and alliances.
Despite these concerns, the governor expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts under President Bola Tinubu, stating that the situation would improve in the lead-up to the next general elections.
“Mr President is on top of the situation, and I’m sure that between now and elections, you will see this begin to taper out,” Abiodun said.
