Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has called for calm following the shooting of Alowonle Iyanda, Chairman of the State Motor Transport System. Speaking on the shooting which caused tensions, the governor said authorities are conducting their investigation into the attempted murder. Governor Adeleke appealed to transport workers across the state not to take matters into their own hands but to allow the relevant state and federal authorities to ensure justice is served. Governor Ademola Adeleke He emphasised that he had already taken swift action by contacting the Inspector General of Police (IGP), who has directed the immediate arrest of those responsible for the shooting. I spoke with the police chief and had a closed-door meeting with the Commissioner of Police. Justice will be served," the governor said. He further assured the public that the government would not allow violent actions to destabilize the peace of the state, urging all citizens to continue with their regular activities while the situation is being handled. Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of Moses Lohor, head of the Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad in the state, and his team for their involvement in the shooting. Lohor allegedly shot Mr Iyanda in the abdomen at the police station following the Chairman’s arrest over a domestic dispute.The shooting has left Mr Iyanda in critical condition, and he is currently on life support at the Osun State Teaching Hospital in Osogbo. Samuel Ojo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, confirmed that the police authorities have condemned the actions of Lohor and his team, labeling them as unprofessional and illegal. A clear punitive directive was issued by the IGP,” said Mr Ojo, adding that the officers involved would be transferred to Abuja for further investigation.
