Super Falcons have encountered a significant disruption in their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a planned four-team friendly competition was scrapped.
The mini-tournament, which was set to feature Super Falcons alongside Ghana women’s national football team, Senegal women’s national football team, and Ivory Coast women’s national football team, was expected to provide crucial match experience.
According to Savid News, the cancellation has left Nigeria without the competitive fixtures that both players and technical staff had been relying on to fine-tune strategies and assess squad readiness.

The development comes at a critical period for the nine-time African champions, who are aiming to retain their title at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The tournament will also serve as a pathway to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the top four teams securing automatic qualification.
Nigeria have featured in every edition of the global tournament since its inception in 1991, qualifying for all nine editions through 2023. Their most impressive outing came in 1999, when they advanced to the quarter-finals the furthest the team has progressed in the competition’s history.
