Victor Boniface has reflected on his international journey with the Super Eagles, acknowledging that while the goals have yet to flow as expected, he remains proud and grateful for the chance to represent Nigeria.
In a chat with sports journalist Oma Akatugba, the striker admitted that reactions to his performances for the national team have been mixed but emphasized that his commitment has never been in doubt.
“I’ve been unlucky with the national team when it comes to scoring goals, even though there were games where I didn’t perform well. My biggest dream as a footballer was to represent my country, and I’ve achieved that. I’m grateful. The fact that things haven’t gone perfectly doesn’t mean I’m a bad player,” Boniface said.
Reflecting on his club career, Boniface addressed transfer speculation linking him with AC Milan, saying he had no regrets about how events unfolded.
“When the Milan deal didn’t go through, I was just relaxing with my friends. Things like that happen in football all the time. I love Germany — I really do,” he said.
Despite missing part of last season through injury, Boniface dismissed suggestions that his campaign was disappointing.
“I missed a lot of games but still scored eight goals. I don’t see how that makes it a bad season,” he said, adding that his journey has been defined by perseverance.
“I came from humble beginnings and survived injuries that could’ve ended my career. Every day I thank God — just being here is a blessing.”
Boniface gave comment on social media criticism where he stated that he brushes off negative comments.
“I just post funny stuff. If people want to turn it into a big issue, that’s their choice. When I stopped posting, they said I must be going through something. When I post, they still complain,” he said with a smile.
Boniface also expressed his affection for Germany, describing it as a place that feels like home.
“We have a good connection here — it feels like home,” he said. “I had offers from other countries, even from England, but I chose to stay in Germany. I love it here and I want to make the fans proud.”
So far in the 2025–26 Bundesliga season, Boniface has featured for Werder Bremen, registering one assist and nine shots without scoring yet. Across his Bundesliga career, he has 22 goals and 10 assists in 49 appearances.
