Wolves manager Gary O’Neil’s future on the job is under a great threat as the West Midlands side sit at the bottom of the Premier League table. O’Neil has led the Old Gold to four defeats this season, including an embarrassing 6-2 loss to Chelsea. The team’s only point this season is from the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest back in August. With such a disastrous start to the season, the 41-year-old manager is beginning to come under intense pressure.
The former Bolton midfielder took over the reins at Wolves in 2023 and led the club to a 14th-place finish in the Premier League, a fact that has availed him the grace he currently enjoys. Despite the fact, however, it might only be a matter of time before he is shown the door. A report from Football Insider indicates that the club owners are not happy with its current form and are demanding to see improvements in performance and results as soon as possible.
Things don’t look good for O’Neil, however, as his next three games are against some of the league’s most formidable sides. Wolves who are just coming from a 3-1 defeat to rivals Aston Villa will face Liverpool next. After facing the Reds, their next game is against Brentford which nearly scared the league champions Man City. Their following game will be against league leaders Man City. If O’Neil’s side do not pick up enough points in these games, his dismissal may be inevitable making him possibly the first Premier League manager to receive the axe this season.
