Tottenham Hotspur has appointed Roberto De Zerbi as the club’s new Men’s Head Coach on a long-term contract, subject to work permit.
The move follows the swift dismissal of interim boss Igor Tudor and marks a decisive step to stabilize the team’s faltering Premier League campaign.
De Zerbi expresses delight at joining one of the world’s biggest and most prestigious clubs. “I am thrilled to join this fantastic football club,” he states.
“In all my discussions with the Club’s leadership, their ambition for the future stands crystal clear to build a team capable of reaching great achievements while playing a style of football that excites and inspires our supporters. I believe in that ambition, and I have signed a long-term contract to give everything to deliver it.”

He adds that the short-term priority remains climbing the Premier League table. “Our complete focus stays on securing points until the final whistle of the last game of the season,” De Zerbi affirms. “I look forward to stepping onto the training pitch immediately and working with these talented players to achieve that goal.”
Sporting Director Johan Lange welcomes the appointment enthusiastically. “Roberto was our number one target for the summer, and we are delighted to bring him in now,” Lange declares.
“He ranks among the most creative and forward-thinking coaches in world football. Moreover, he brings a wealth of experience at the highest level, including proven success in the Premier League.”
This season, Tottenham Hotspur has already seen three different head coaches.
Thomas Frank started the 2025/26 campaign strongly after replacing Ange Postecoglou last summer; however, the club dismissed him on 11 February following a disappointing run.
Subsequently, Igor Tudor stepped in as interim head coach on 14 February but lasted only 44 days and seven matches before his exit on 29 March.
Now De Zerbi takes the reins as the third manager of the turbulent season, tasked with steering the side away from the relegation zone with just seven games remaining.
De Zerbi built his reputation through an exciting, attack-minded, and possession-based approach. After a playing career spanning nearly 300 appearances, the Brescia-born coach began his managerial journey in Italy. In June 2018, he joined Serie A side Sassuolo and earned widespread praise.
Then, in May 2021, he took charge of Shakhtar Donetsk, where he guided the team to the UEFA Champions League group stage and captured the Ukrainian Super Cup—his first silverware as a coach.
Furthermore, De Zerbi moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in September 2022.
There, he secured the Seagulls’ highest-ever Premier League finish in his debut season and delivered European qualification for the first time in the club’s history.
Most recently, he led Marseille to a runners-up finish in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 campaign, earning another UEFA Champions League spot.
