President Bola Tinubu has approved the full disbursement of match bonuses and allowances for the Super Falcons ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final clash with Morocco on 26 July.
The announcement was made by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday. He confirmed that all entitlements, covering players, coaching staff, and team officials—have been cleared for immediate payment.
Describing the move as “policy in motion,” Dikko praised the Tinubu administration for its renewed commitment to Nigerian athletes. He noted that the timely payments represent a shift in sports administration, one that prioritises athletes’ welfare without the usual delays or controversy.
“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” Dikko said. “Future generations will appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector.”
He further stated that the new approach to prompt payments would become standard practice going forward. The initiative will also extend to D’Tigress, Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, as they prepare for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, with increased allowances and bonuses approved.
The decision has been widely welcomed by sports stakeholders and fans alike, coming at a critical time as the Super Falcons aim to clinch yet another continental title.
