Super Eagles have retained their impressive 26th position in the latest FIFA world rankings, underlining their steady rise on the global stage. The team achieved this feat after a competitive March international window that delivered both triumph and a hard-fought stalemate.
The Eagles opened the window with a commanding 2–1 victory over Iran. They capitalised on the Persians’ strength to collect vital ranking points and boost their standing. However, they followed up with a 2–2 draw against lower-ranked Jordan.
This 26th spot marks Nigeria’s highest FIFA ranking in 16 years. The last time the Super Eagles climbed higher came back in 2010. The latest update therefore reinforces the progress the team has made under coach Eric Chelle.

Super Eagles thrives to 26th in FIFA rankings
On the African continent, Nigeria sits proudly in third place. Morocco continues to lead the pack as the highest-ranked side on the continent, while Senegal occupies second. The Super Eagles stay ahead of traditional powerhouses Algeria, Egypt and Ivory Coast, confirming their status as one of Africa’s elite nations.
Globally, France now tops the FIFA table, followed by Spain in second place and Argentina in third.
Meanwhile, attention quickly shifts to the future. The next FIFA rankings update will arrive after the June international window. Before then, the Super Eagles will test themselves in the Unity Cup, scheduled for May 26 to May 30. They will face India and Jamaica in the tournament.
The competition carries special significance for the squad. Eric Chelle’s men won the last edition in London, beating Jamaica in the final after overcoming their eternal rivals Ghana in the semi-final. Organisers will soon announce the venue and exact fixtures.
