Ruud van Nistelrooy, Manchester United’s interim head coach, has left the club following the decision by newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim not to retain him on the coaching staff. Van Nistelrooy, who joined as an assistant in July on a two-year contract, briefly stepped up as caretaker boss after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, leading the team to three wins and a draw in his four matches in charge.
The former Netherlands international and United goal-scoring legend, who netted 150 goals in 219 appearances between 2001 and 2006, was a fan favorite during his playing days at Old Trafford. His recent stint as interim manager rekindled his connection with the club, though Amorim, the new Portuguese head coach, opted for a fresh coaching lineup.
“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend,” read a statement from the club. “We are grateful for his contribution and the way he approached his role. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”
In addition to van Nistelrooy, assistant coaches Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel have also left the club. Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher, however, will remain, maintaining his role as a bridge between the first team and the academy.
Manchester United has announced it will soon reveal the full composition of Amorim’s first-team coaching staff as the club enters a new chapter under his leadership.
