After just 14 months at Old Trafford, Rubén Amorim has officially parted ways with Manchester United, following mounting tensions with the club’s leadership.
In less than 24 hours after dropping hints of a strained relationship with board members, claiming he wouldn’t be fully backed in the transfer market, United confirmed that Amorim had “departed his role as head coach.”
The Portuguese coach had also made clear, following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds, that he wanted to work as a manager rather than a mere coach, and was prepared to leave when his contract expired in 18 months.

In a statement from the club on Ruben Amorim read: “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly decided that it is the right time to make a change.
“This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish. The club would like to thank Rubén for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.”
During his 58 games in charge across all competitions, Amorim recorded 23 wins, 15 draws, and 20 losses.
In the Premier League, he oversaw 42 matches, winning 14, drawing 10, and losing 18, with the team finishing 15th in the 2024–25 season, marking their worst top-flight finish in decades.
In cup competitions, Amorim led United to the UEFA Europa League final, where they finished as runners-up. His FA Cup record stood at one win and two draws, while the EFL Cup campaign saw no wins, one draw, and one defeat.
