Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has suggested that striker Gabriel Jesus may opt to leave the club at the end of the current season, as the Gunners prepare to offload several first-team players during the summer transfer window.
The north London side have reportedly listed four players for potential sale: Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, Ethan Nwaneri, and Myles Lewis-Skelly. The club is seeking to generate funds to complete the permanent signing of defender Piero Hincapie.
Speaking to Metro, Parlour highlighted that Jesus, at this stage of his career, is likely seeking regular first-team football, which could influence his decision to depart.
“I think Jesus might leave at the end of the season; he is at that age where he wants to be playing week in, week out,” Parlour said. “We could lose him. We had four strikers when I played. That is what I don’t understand. [Regardless of Jesus leaving], bring in another one anyway. That can give the other options a lift because they see the standard being set.”
Jesus, who has been a key part of Mikel Arteta’s attacking line-up since joining Arsenal, has experienced periods of rotation this season due to competition for places. Parlour’s comments underscore the challenge faced by Arsenal in retaining top talent while balancing squad depth and financial requirements.
The potential sale of Jesus, combined with the offloading of other first-team players, reflects Arsenal’s broader strategy of restructuring the squad to meet tactical and economic objectives. Fans will be watching closely to see whether Arteta can retain his star striker or whether the Brazilian forward will pursue opportunities elsewhere in search of guaranteed playing time.
Arsenal’s summer plans also include bolstering the defensive line, with the anticipated permanent deal for Hincapie expected to strengthen the backline. However, Parlour believes that signing another forward, even if Jesus stays, could provide competition and elevate the overall standard within the squad.
As the season draws to a close, Arsenal’s transfer decisions will be crucial in shaping the team’s ambitions for the 2026–27 campaign. With several key players potentially moving on, the club faces important choices in maintaining a competitive edge while meeting financial and strategic goals.
