Paris Saint-Germain extended their record in France’s equivalent of the Super Cup, claiming a 14th French Champions Trophy after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over arch-rivals Marseille in Kuwait on Thursday night.
PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier was the decisive figure, saving two penalties as the Parisians won the shootout 4–1 following a thrilling 2–2 draw at the end of regulation time. Desire Doue sealed the win with the final spot-kick after Chevalier denied efforts from Matt O’Riley and Hamed Traore.
PSG struck first when Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé delicately chipped the ball over Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. Only Rulli’s sharp reactions prevented Nuno Mendes from doubling the lead moments later.

At the other end, Chevalier showcased his quality with a fine save to deny Emerson midway through the first half, before producing another outstanding stop to keep out Igor Paixao’s header shortly after the hour mark.
Marseille were handed a lifeline with 15 minutes remaining when Chevalier’s mistimed challenge resulted in a penalty following a VAR review. Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood calmly converted to level the score.
Late drama followed when Willian Pacho’s poor clearance deceived his own goalkeeper, allowing Marseille to take the lead just three minutes from full time and appear on course for their first trophy since the 2012 French League Cup.
However, PSG struck back deep into stoppage time as Gonçalo Ramos finished Bradley Barcola’s cross to force penalties, where Luis Enrique’s side ultimately prevailed.
Both teams now turn their focus back to domestic football. PSG, currently second in Ligue 1 and one point behind Lens, host Lille next Friday, while third-placed Marseille travel to Angers.
In Europe, PSG are also aiming to secure automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16, while Marseille remain in contention for a playoff spot.
Marseille’s appearance in the final came as league runners-up last season, finishing 19 points behind a dominant PSG side that completed a domestic double.
The competition has become increasingly nomadic in recent years, with previous editions hosted in countries including Canada, China, Qatar, the United States, and Morocco.
