The 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, kicked off with a familiar rivalry as Remo Stars and Rivers United played out a 1-1 draw in the season opener.
The M.K.O. Abiola Sports Complex, temporary home to the Ikenne-based Remo Stars, hosted a lively encounter as both sides found the net in the first half.

Aniekeme Okon gave Rivers United the lead with the league’s first goal of the new campaign, but Mbaoma Victor equalised just five minutes later, marking his return to Remo Stars with a goal.
Both teams, established among the league’s elite in recent seasons, battled fiercely until the final whistle, but neither could convert late chances to seal victory.
Tomorrow, Abia Warriors will host Kano Pillars in Umuahia, while Wikki Tourists face Plateau United.
Katsina United will clash with Warri Wolves, and Kun-Khalifat will take on record champions Rangers International in Enugu.

Elsewhere, Kwara United will meet Ikorodu City, El-Kanemi Warriors will test Bendel Insurance in Maiduguri, and Shooting Stars will square off against Bayelsa United in Ibadan.
