Morocco will remain the host nation for the 16th edition of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF President Patrice Motsepe addressed the speculation on Friday, confirming that the tournament will go ahead as planned from 17 March to 3 April 2026.
Motsepe dismissed rumors surrounding the future of women’s football in Africa, explaining that discussions had taken place amid strong interest from several countries to host the competition.

He noted that Morocco stepped in to support CAF’s high organizational standards at a time when there was limited preparation time.
“Several countries were interested in hosting, but due to time constraints and our strict requirements, Morocco offered assistance. As we speak, we remain engaged with Morocco, and WAFCON will proceed as planned,” he said.
Motsepe emphasized the importance of maintaining the scheduled dates, stressing that the tournament is part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The 2026 edition will mark the third consecutive time Morocco has hosted the WADCON, following the 2022 and 2024 tournaments.
