Morocco and Cameroon will face each other in Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final after both sides progressed from the round of 16 on Sunday.
Cameroon booked their place with a 2–1 win over South Africa. After a cagey start, Junior Tchamadeu opened the scoring in the 34th minute, reacting quickest after a corner was only half-cleared.
The Indomitable Lions doubled their lead early in the second half when Christian Kofane headed in Aboubakar Nagida’s cross. South Africa pushed back late on and pulled a goal back through Evidence Makgopa, but Cameroon held on to secure victory.
Hosts Morocco advanced with a narrow 1–0 win over Tanzania. Despite dominating possession, the Atlas Lions struggled to break down a resilient defence and went into half-time without a shot on target.
The decisive moment came after 64 minutes when Brahim Díaz scored at the near post. Morocco then saw out the game calmly to reach the last eight.
The quarter-final sets up a clash between tournament hosts chasing a first continental title in 50 years and a Cameroon side buoyed by another hard-fought knockout win.
