The Miami Heat have suspended six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler for seven games due to “conduct detrimental to the team” and confirmed they are open to trade offers for the star forward.
In a statement released by the team, the Heat cited multiple incidents over the season, particularly in recent weeks, as the reason for their decision. “Through his actions and statements, Jimmy has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team,” the statement read.
Butler, 35, has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with his position at the Heat, stating he would “probably” not want to continue playing for the team.
The suspension marks a significant shift from comments made by Heat team president Pat Riley just last week, asserting there was no intention to trade Butler.
Since joining the Heat in 2019, Butler has made 377 appearances and has been a pivotal player in their campaigns. This season, he has averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.
Butler’s last outing was a 128-115 loss to the Indiana Pacers, where he contributed nine points, four assists, and two rebounds.
The Heat’s willingness to entertain trade discussions signals the potential end of Butler’s tenure in Miami. With previous stints at the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers, Butler remains one of the league’s most sought-after talents.
For now, the basketball world waits to see where Butler’s next chapter will unfold.
