Enzo Maresca has left his role as Chelsea manager following a serious breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy.
Chelsea have struggled for consistency in the Premier League, winning just one of their last seven matches and slipping to fifth in the table, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Despite domestic difficulties, Maresca’s tenure included notable successes, with the former Leicester City coach guiding the club to victory in the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Tensions reportedly intensified after Maresca described the period following a league win over Everton as his “worst 48 hours” at the club remarks that unsettled senior executives as well as members of his own coaching staff.
Matters worsened after a 2–2 draw with Bournemouth on 30 December, when Maresca did not face the media. While Chelsea cited illness, it is understood the manager was seriously considering his future at the club.
Maresca is believed to have grown increasingly frustrated by interference in team selection and a perceived lack of public support from the club.
Further disagreements over squad rotation, public criticism of transfer decisions, unauthorised external appearances, and a recent change of agent added to the strain.
Maresca has denied speculation linking him with a potential move to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Despite their league struggles, Chelsea remain active on multiple fronts, having reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, qualified for the Champions League knockout stage, and preparing to face Charlton in the FA Cup.
