Manchester City have agreed a deal in principle to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi for £20 million, with the transfer expected to be completed later this month.
City moved quickly for the 25-year-old England centre-back following injury setbacks to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias. Talks with Guéhi began earlier this month and have accelerated significantly in the past 24 hours, with the defender now expected to join Pep Guardiola’s side on a long-term contract.
While personal terms have not yet been formally finalised, they are not anticipated to pose any problems.
Guéhi, who is out of contract this summer, has attracted interest from several top European clubs and was close to a move to Liverpool last summer. Earlier this month, BBC Sport reported that City were exploring a move for the defender, and negotiations have since progressed rapidly.
The Palace skipper captained the club to the first major trophy in their history, leading them to an FA Cup final victory against Manchester City in May, followed by a Community Shield win over Liverpool at the start of the current season.

Since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021, Guéhi has developed into one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders. He has become a regular for England and played a key role in the Three Lions’ run to the Euro 2024 final.
City’s defensive depth has been tested this season, with Gvardiol sidelined after surgery for a broken shinbone and Ruben Dias ruled out for four to six weeks with a hamstring injury. Guéhi is now set to have an immediate opportunity to feature.
Guéhi began his professional career at Chelsea, progressing through the club’s academy before making his senior debut during the 2019–20 season. A loan spell at Swansea City helped him gain valuable first-team experience before his permanent move to Crystal Palace, where he has remained a standout performer.
