Barcelona’s major summer signing, Dani Olmo, will be sidelined for at least a month due to a hamstring injury, according to reports. Olmo, who joined the Blaugrana from RB Leipzig for a fee of €55 million, sustained the injury during Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Girona on Sunday. The 26-year-old was substituted in the second half after scoring his third goal in as many games, highlighting what has been an impressive start to his Barcelona career.
The Spanish giants are enjoying a perfect start to the season, with five wins from five LaLiga matches. The team seems to have found its rhythm under former Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick. With 17 goals scored in five games, Barcelona are experiencing their most prolific start to a season since 2017-2018, when Lionel Messi was still at the club and they had the same number of goals at this stage.
Barcelona will miss Olmo’s presence when they face AS Monaco in the Champions League on Thursday, and later against Young Boys in October. He will also be absent for their LaLiga fixtures against Villarreal, Getafe, Osasuna, and Alavés. However, there is hope he may recover in time to feature in the match against Sevilla on October 20. Olmo joins a growing list of injured Barcelona players, including Andreas Christensen, Fermin Lopez, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal, and Ronald Araújo.
Olmo is a product of Barcelona’s famed youth system, where he spent seven years from 2007 to 2014 before moving to Dinamo Zagreb. He remained at Zagreb until 2020, when he transferred to the German side RB Leipzig. Alongside Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski, Olmo forms part of Barcelona’s attacking core under Flick, with the trio having contributed 10 LaLiga goals between them so far this season.
