Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi has been announced as the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, becoming the first Moroccan to receive the honour since Mustapha Hadji in 1998. The award was presented on Wednesday during a ceremony held in Rabat.
The 27-year-old beat Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohammed Salah to claim the top men’s prize. Osimhen previously won in 2023, while Ademola Lookman took the award in 2024.
Hakimi was a standout performer for Paris Saint-Germain throughout the 2024/2025 season, contributing significantly to the club’s Ligue 1, French Cup, and UEFA Champions League triumphs.
In the women’s category, Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade missed out on the CAF Women’s Player of the Year title, which went to Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak. Ajibade captained the Super Falcons to their 10th WAFCON title, defeating Morocco in the final. She earned “woman of the match” in three of their six games and was named the tournament’s best player.
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie won the Golden Glove award for the third straight year, while the Nigerian women’s national team was named CAF Women’s National Team of the Year.
