FIFA has confirmed that the champions of the 2026 World Cup will receive $50 million in prize money, as part of a record financial package for the tournament announced on Wednesday.
The overall prize pool has been set at $655 million (approximately €558.5 million), marking an increase of nearly 50 percent compared to the $440 million shared among teams at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 2026 edition, which will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19, will be the first to include 48 teams up from 32 in the previous tournament.
According to AFP, Argentina earned $42 million after lifting the trophy in Qatar, where Lionel Messi led them to a dramatic penalty shootout victory over France in the final. France, as runners-up, received $30 million.

Under the new structure, the losing finalists in 2026 will earn $33 million, while the third-placed team will collect $29 million. The losing semi-finalists will each take home $27 million.
Teams knocked out at the group stage will receive $9 million, and all 48 participating nations will also be paid an additional $1.5 million to help cover preparation expenses.
