Christian Eriksen has begun a new chapter in his illustrious career, signing a two-year deal with Bundesliga club Wolfsburg after leaving Manchester United as a free agent this summer.
The 33-year-old midfielder, whose Old Trafford contract expired at the end of the 2024–25 season, was among the most high-profile free agents available before Wolfsburg secured his signature until 2027.
“I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. I’m convinced that together we can make a difference in Wolfsburg,” Eriksen said in a statement released by the German club.
The move adds another twist to Eriksen’s extraordinary football journey. After his traumatic cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash with Finland, the playmaker was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), which forced his exit from Inter Milan due to Italian medical restrictions. He revived his career with an impressive half-season at Brentford in 2022, before earning a move to Manchester United.
During three seasons at United, Eriksen made 99 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing around 17 assists. Initially a key figure under Erik ten Hag, he gradually saw his role reduced and departed following the arrival of Ruben Amorim.
Eriksen’s wider career highlights his enduring quality
He first rose to prominence at Ajax, where he won three Eredivisie titles, before becoming a central figure at Tottenham Hotspur. Across seven years in North London, he made over 300 appearances, scored 55 goals, and established himself as one of the Premier League’s most gifted creators. His time at Inter Milan, though brief, still brought success with the 2020–21 Serie A title.
In total, Eriksen has amassed over 650 club appearances and scored more than 120 goals across Ajax, Spurs, Inter, Brentford, United, and now Wolfsburg. On the international stage, he remains Denmark’s talisman, earning 144 caps and scoring 46 goals. His accolades include multiple Danish Footballer of the Year awards and a place in the 2017–18 PFA Team of the Year
