Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga has expressed his satisfaction with his decision to leave Manchester United, insisting that the move has been beneficial for his career. The Sweden international, who has been in impressive form for Forest this season, revealed in an interview with Fotbollskanalen that he still holds Manchester United close to his heart but has no regrets about moving on.
A Fresh Start at Nottingham Forest
After struggling for regular playing time at Old Trafford, Elanga made the switch to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 in search of more opportunities. Since joining, he has established himself as a key player for the club, delivering performances that have attracted interest from top European sides. Despite this, the winger remains focused on his current team.
“United are one of the best teams in the world. I still love the club. I watch their games and they have a special place in my heart. When I see them not doing very well, it hurts a little,” Elanga admitted.
“I think I made a good decision. I’m happy about it. If I have a good season, there will always be teams that want to talk, but right now, I’m in Nottingham and I’m happy here.”
Nottingham Forest’s Progress and European Aspirations
Elanga has played a crucial role in Nottingham Forest’s campaign, helping the team push towards a strong finish in the Premier League. He emphasized the club’s ambition and determination to compete at the highest level, with European qualification still within reach.
“Nottingham is going pretty well. We’re doing pretty well. Hopefully, we’ll finish as high as possible,” he said.
While Forest has performed admirably this season, Elanga believes the squad has the potential to do even better.
“We can do even better. I know all the players in the squad, and I know we can all be even better, but we’ve done fantastically well so far.”
With just nine games remaining in the season, the Swedish international remains optimistic about Forest’s chances of securing a European spot, though he acknowledges the challenge ahead.
“Many people are talking about Europe (Champions League place), and that is a possibility, but we have to win our games. We have done well so far, but the season is long. We have to keep winning. I always want more,” he added.
Elanga’s Rise and Future Prospects
Elanga’s performances at Nottingham Forest have not gone unnoticed, with several top European clubs monitoring his progress. His pace, dribbling ability, and versatility have made him a key attacking threat, and at just 22 years old, he has plenty of room for growth.
His journey from Manchester United academy prospect to first-team regular at Nottingham Forest is a testament to his determination and ambition. While he remains grateful for his time at United, he is now fully committed to making an impact at his new club.
With Forest’s season entering a crucial phase, Elanga’s contributions could be decisive in helping them achieve their goals. Whether they secure European football or not, the winger has already proven that his decision to leave Manchester United was the right one.
